Media and entertainment leader HBO is relying on Sun Microsystems and
Thomson Grass Valley to power their high-speed tapeless origination for
high definition (HD) and standard definition networks. HBO has deployed
two Sun Fire™ 6800 servers with 192 terabytes (TB) of Sun StorEdge™ 9990
storage to support HD video play-out. HBO has also deployed 12 TB of Sun
StorEdge™ 5310 NAS storage to support a Video on Demand (VoD) initiative
that streams video via their uplink to cable aggregation systems. In addition,
they have implemented clustered Sun Fire V440 servers and a Sun StorEdge™ 3510
array to support an Oracle-based scheduling database along with Sun StorEdge™
QFS software for file management.
